THE ART OF GIVING

THE ART OF GIVING: Thanks for stopping by and getting involved in this great opportunity. In starting off the new year, Christine and I decided to put together a challenge blog that would not only provide you with inspiration and free goodies, but to also let you know about the many ways we can "PAY IT FORWARD" to others in our lives...in simple and GIGANTIC ways. We hope that in combining both inspiration and giving to others, we can all make this world a better place, one layout, card, and gesture at a time. Thank you for taking this journey with us.

Winter Holidays Challenge!

Monday, December 14, 2009

This is such a fun, busy time of the year for shopping and giving to our friends and family. It is also about celebrating and thinking of others. This month we are focusing on giving. Please make a project ( page layout, mini book, altered item) to document how you spend the holidays whether it be decortating a tree, singing songs, lighting candles, or time with special people, we want to see how you enjoy the month of December. As you are out shopping, please keep in mind, other people who are less fortunate, and do a little extra something special for them. Some ideas are: donate some spare change to the Salvation Army who stand in front of most grocery stores and large retail shops, or give a new toy for a toy drive. The local fire stations often collect toys for tots. If you aren't able to "give" anything financially, you can donate some extra clothes or household items to your local goodwill. We at Scrap It Forward want to combine the love of scrapbooking, with helping others. Whatever you decide to do, please let us know when you submit your challenge entry! Thank you for particiapting and helping someone else!!! Happy Holidays!

This challenge will run from today, December 14th until Wednesday, December 30th. Two winners will be selected on December 31st. We know that it is a busy time of year, but to get you in the mood, and those creative juices a flowing.... here are some sample layouts that Illyse and I did. AND if that doesn't get you going, check out the prizes below! :0)

We are all so very THANKFUL CHALLENGE!

Sunday, November 22, 2009

During this time of year we often reflect upon the many gifts in our lives that we are thankful for. Many of us are so very blessed with family, caring friends and loved ones. We also may be thankful for the good fortune in our lives or for small gifts that may seem hidden to others. Whatever it may be, why don't you share it with us?
This challenge is simple, link a picture of your paper craft, layout..whatever you may choose, in your post of something that depicts your "thankfulness". The project must have the word "thankful" displayed on it somewhere. Along with your post, please tell us why/what you are thankful for this season.

Why do you want to do this? Well, first of all, sometimes it is good to take an inventory of your life and realize that even when things get tough..there is always something to be thankful for. Secondly, there is a prize involved..if you do both parts of the challenge, of course. So why not?

Here is the lovely RAK that you could win....

To inspire you here are a few examples from the design team :0)

Christine's Mini Book:

Illyse's Layout and Card:

To give you time during the holidays or perhaps even that dreaded Black Friday shopping, this challenge will run until Sat. Dec. 6th. A winner will be selected on Sunday the 7th. Now pass this on and lets spread the love and scrappy goodness!

AND LASTLY... HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!

Breast Cancer Awareness Month~ Think Pink!

Sunday, October 4, 2009

October is National Breast Cancer awareness month. Unfortunately
many of us know someone who has been touched by Breast cancer or have personally suffered from this disease. It affects many of us and as women we are all at risk. I have had 2 very good friends that were afflicted by this disease and thank goodness are also Breast Cancer Survivors. Compared to other cancers, breast cancer has a very high survival rate. However that doesn't change the need for more research to be conducted to help find better treatments and hopefully make this disease a thing of the past.

This month we are also going to focus on women and friendship(Young or old). Aside from treatment, friendship and love also give us the strength to carry on when things get tough. Please create a layout that is of just girls celebrating their friendship.
Include a link in your post to your layout for an entry into our random drawing.

Here are our samples:

This is me with a very good friend celebrating our friendship, her clean scans and being CANCER FREE!

Here is a wonderful layout that celebrates friendship. Girls we need our girlfriends..they give us strength. Look how young we start.....

But wait there's more! Any of you eat Yoplait yoghurt? Are you aware that in the month of October that the little foil lids on their yogurts are pink? There is a reason for that. Yopliat Yogurt donates 10 cents for every lid that they receive to the Susan G Komen Foundation. This money goes to research and support for breast cancer victims. To further explain here is something that I pulled from their website....

During our annual drive, for every pink lid you send in by December 31, 2009 Yoplait® will donate 10 cents to Susan G. Komen for the Cure®, up to $1.5 million. And we guarantee a donation of at least $500,000. So grab your friends, coworkers, yoga class or neighbors and start getting involved today.

Use our tools, start a team or just pick up a spoon and you can help fight breast cancer. Every lid matters.

So want an extra entry into our little drawing for the think pink prize? Just collect and thoroughly clean the lids, promise to send them in to either us or yoplait. If you choose to send them on your own please send us a photo or your stash. Here is where you can send them:
Save Lids to Save Lives®
P.O. Box 420704
El Paso, TX 88542-0704

OR

Scrap It Forward
2040 Brittany Place
Placentia CA 92870

Please support this cause and spread the word. You could even collect them at work..just put a Manila envelope in the staff lounge.
Just go to http://www.yoplait.com/slsl/#/tools to print out a poster/flier.

Want to see the pink goodies that one lucky winner will receive?

Not bad eh? Come and join the fun! Let's help make a difference!

Be an Angel Challenge

Wednesday, September 9, 2009

It is time for a new challenge! Did you guess from my silly clues who our next prize is by? If you guessed Tattered Angels, then you guessed right!

Yes friends it is time for us to be angels. So many of us have them in our lives, some are recognized and some are present when we don't even know it. Regardless, we are blessed to have them.

To tie in the "angel" part of it all we are asking you to check out this website http://www.chemoangels.net/Main%20Content/how_it_works.htm and consider becoming a "Chemo Angel". Here is quick description from the website: Chemo Angels is a program dedicated to supporting people with cancer. In addition to providing helpful information and cancer related resources, we match patients who are going through the difficult time of chemotherapy with "Angels". The function of these Angels is - through little notes, cards and occasional small gifts - to bring a bit of cheer and encouragement.

I have been a Chemo Angel myself and am signing up for another angel spot today. It really isn't that tough to do and it brings a little light in to those tough days for cancer patients. If you decide to sign up, let us know in a post and you will receive an entry into our drawing for a prize from "Tattered Angels".

Now for the crafty part of it all....Do you like Glimmer Mist? Have you ever used it? If not, Glimmer Mist is a product by Tattered Angels. It is a fun spray mist that adds a little sparkle and color to your paper craft projects. It comes in many colors that you can mix and match and spray on any paper project. So...Illyse and I played around with it the other night and this is what we came up with.

Illyse's Project
Illyse pained chipboard and then sprayed on top of the painted surface...pretty no?

Christine's Project

Look did you see..I sprayed this on a chipboard flower and look what I got! Then I decided to spray it on my card stock..doesn't it look like Bling paper? Fun stuff!

So the Crafty part of the challenge is to make a project using glimmer mist and link it in your post for us to see! It is fun and easy challenge to do, so show us your stuff! For more ideas on how to use Glimmer Mist..go check out their blog! http://mytatteredangels.com/blog/

Why not double your chances of winning! Do both the crafty and the paying it forward Chemo angel challenge and get TWO entries into the drawing! Here is what you could win! a bottle of Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist, a tattered angel,a chipboard flower and a wooden tag!

This challenge will run run from today Sept. 9th until, Saturday Sept. 26th. Two winners will be randomly selected on the following day! So hurry! Have fun and get in your entries!

It's Clearly Simple

Monday, July 20, 2009

Well HELLO there friends and fellow scrappy followers. We had to take a quick little hiatus due to vacations and some minor life's challenges demanding attention....but WE ARE BACK!

We have a new challenge coming to you! It is called...It's Clearly Simple. We have some fun prizes that are clearly divine. If you get your challenges in by Thurday, August 6th..you'll be in the clear.

Okay so...did you all get my silly attempt at giving you a clue? Well if not, here it goes. Your challenge this time around is to create a project (layout, altered item, card, whatever you can think of) with clear materials. This could be acetate sheets, clear buttons, glossy acccents, a clear clipboard, clear alphas (lke Maya Road or Heidi Swaap) a clear paint can or whatever else that you can surprise us with. Please link us to your project in your post! Did I make that clear? Sorry I just couldn't resist. :0)

The second part of our challenge is the human aspect of it all. Often we have so many people in our lives that we care for and maybe it is clear to us how we feel about them, or how we are very grateful for what they do....but have you made that clear to your special person in mind? This could be a friend, a teacher, a family member, a neighbor, a postal carrier, your pastor... I don't know..you tell us..who is this person and why? Next, make it clear to them how very grateful you are to them, how you appreciate something that they do etc. Then share your story about it in your post, along with a link to the project that you made. Simple words and gestures can make a world of difference and this is an easy thing to do..so have at it!

Now... what you have been waiting for....the prizes. Right? We didn't forget!
Two lucky winners will receive a pack of 4 6x6 sheets of Grafix Clear Craft Plastic and a clear stamp.

These sheets are very versatile and fun! You can stamp on them, emboss, paint, apply glitter, ribbon, tape, punch holes and add brads or eyelets in them and much more. Here are a few ideas from Illyse and Myself :0)

So we will be waiting to hear from you and see what crafty goodness that you will be coming up with! We just can't wait.

And on another note..It is time for me to make something very CLEAR to two special people in my life. Illyse and Jenn who are part of this wonderful team. I love you both for being such good friends to me, for being there in my time of need, for making me laugh at everything, for making this blog a reality, for sharing my excitement for all things, for listening, for laughing, for friendship. Girls..you both seriously ROCK!...and I don't use that term loosely ;0)

Ronald McDonald House Challenge

Monday, May 18, 2009

Well It's that time again friends. We have a new and simple challenge. Our focus this challenge is for ailing children and their families. We will be supporting the Ronald McDonald House. If you are unaware of what the Ronald McDonald house is, here is a description of their services taken from their website:

The Orange County Ronald McDonald House :

The idea behind the Orange County Ronald McDonald House is simple: provide a comfortable and affordable “home away from home” for families shouldering the burdens associated with a child who is being treated at a nearby hospital. Some children must travel great distances to get the medical attention they need. Hospital treatments may last a day, a month or more than a year. For the families of these children, affordable accommodations are few and far between. Often, they are limited to costly hotels or unforgiving hospital chairs. The Orange County Ronald McDonald House offers a comfortable, supportive and affordable alternative for these families. It’s a temporary home near their child’s hospital where they can sleep, eat, relax and find encouragement from others. It is much more than just a nice place to stay. It helps to anchor families in very trying times. It can reduce stress by providing a venue where people can talk things out with others who are wrestling with the same issues.

This challenge is sponsored by Bam POP and Illyse one of our Fabulous designers! Thank you bunches! The prizes for this challenge include: 2 sets BAM POP chipboard sentence bubbles and a set of Chipboard Heidi Swaap frames. Let's here it for our sponsors...WOOHOO!

Now on to the challenges. It seems so often the little things in life we often unintentionally take for granted. As parents we often live vicariously through our children's joyful moments. It is important that we cherish each and every moment with them. When unexpected illnesses or injuries occur to one of our children, it can turn a our lives upside down. Therefore Our layout challenge (Challenge one)is a simple one! We want it to focus on your children or a special child in your life... Show us a layout...any layout of a child/children enjoying themselves with smiling faces! Perhaps a special moment or even just being goofy..you pick..whatever brings you joy when you look at it is the right choice!

Here are the Design team's sample layouts!

Jenn

Christine

Illyse

Challenge Two: Oh my this is EASY! Now you soda drinkers before you trash that soda can, pull of that tab and set it aside. Collect as many soda tabs as you can and send them our way! Yes it is true..they are worth something to us...well actually they are worth something to the Ronald McDonald house. You see, they are recyclable and....we can turn them in to a recycling center who will in turn write a check to The Ronald McDonald house. It is a win win situation! You recycle and do the earth some good and we send a check to the Ronald McDonald house for the recycling dollars raised!

***Remember. We do not need the entire can..ONLY THE TABS :0)

And..as usual, do one challenge, get one entry into the raffle, complete two challenges, get two entries into the raffle for our fun chipboard prizes. This challenge starts today Monday May 18th and will resume Sunday June 7th. Winners will be announced on June 8th! Please pass our website/challenge on to your friends and make sure to leave a post in this thread to be included in the raffle. Please contact us with any questions and/or our mailing addy to send us the soda tabs! Thanks and have a wonderful week!

Project Cuddle & Creative Options

Sunday, March 8, 2009

Thank you for joining us in another great Pay It Forward opportunity and giveaway. This month’s focus is on a non-profit organization founded by Debbe Magnusen and known as Project Cuddle®. The organization’s goal is to help prevent infants from being abandoned. Project Cuddle® offers a crisis line where frightened girls or women can find safe, legal options so that they never have to leave a baby at a dumpster, a church or dirty back alley. It is a reality too often seen in this world. Since its inception, Project Cuddle® has saved over 600 babies across the country and into Canada from the fate of being abandoned, or worse. What can you do to help? We are asking for your donations of new baby bottles or pacifiers to donate to this agency. Every little bit will help. If you are interested in joining this opportunity, please email us so we can send you an address on where to ship these very important necessities. Once we collect all the bottles, we will take a picture and deliver them to the agency.

If you are looking for a paper craft challenge create a layout that is baby focused. You can upload it to our Mr. Linky :) Everyone who creates a layout will also be entered in our raffle for a Creative Options paper kit.
So to sum it all up there are 2 challenges:
Challenge 1- Send us new baby bottles or pacifiers for project cuddle
Challenge 2- Make a baby layout or baby related layout and upload it at the bottom of this post!
It is that easy :)

So,why not try for both? If you participate in 1 challenge you get one entry. If you participate in both challenges you will get two entries! The winners will receive both a creative options tote and paper kit!
We are happy to be to have this month’s challenge sponsored by Creative Options, who bring you creative and stylish storage/organization systems for your crafting needs. They are also concurrently running a Sweepstakes with the kits we are giving away, where you can win a gift basket of goodies. Check out their site here and let them know we sent you! All we ask is that you Be Creative and send us some inspiration. Once you have created something, place your name and link in Mr. Linky’s section so we can all ooh and ahh over it. Thanks again and we look forward to seeing you strut your stuff.

Thank you to Creative Options for sponsoring us this month! Here is a little bit of inspiration for all of you. The Creative Options kit is versatile and a lot of fun! Check out what our team did with this great kit!

Just a little update on our Create and Donate card drive. We have been receiving oodles of cards. It is so wonderful how so many of you have been so giving of yourselves to support a cause that is so personal to us. We have got some yummy Pink Paislee to give away! The countdown is on! Here's a few cards to oogle at. Thank you scrappy friends!

A special thank you to: Alicia, Dawn, Stacy, Laura, Detta, Heather,Holly,Liz, Bucket and Patricia. Thank you for being so giving of yourselves and paying it forward in such a thoughtful way. We know that there are more on the way and we appreciate all of our scrappy friends. Thanks for making this such a success. Remember to get those cards in by March 15th to be included in the drawing. AND...remember to leave a message in the original post if you haven't already!
